Primary colors

This morning, I was for Obama to get the nomination for the Democratic ticket, but now I'm not so sure. I watched the live streaming video on cnn.com of the California Democratic primary debates tonight, and man, I was so blown away by Hillary I couldn't believe it. I absolutely loved her.

It was hilarious - a woman wrote in to the debates, saying that she was 38 years old (I'll be 38 this Sept.) and that as long as she's been old enough to vote, there has been either a Bush or a Clinton on the ballot. I forget what her question was, but I had to laugh - that's obviously true for me, too. Hillary answered the question extremely well, saying that a Clinton had cleaned up well after the first Bush, and that we could use another Clinton to clean up for the second. I laughed out loud at that one.

What impressed me about her was her leadership and her concise, clear, brilliant answers to everything. She was so sharp. Obama has great ideas and somewhat good answers, but IMO he isn't as good of a public speaker. He says "uh" a lot, and I felt he didn't answer the questions as specifically or decisively as Hillary did. They're both excellent candidates, though, and obviously in November I'll vote for whoever is on the ticket. But I'm really feeling Hillary tonight. As of tonight, I'm voting for her!

Wow, you've been busy on here!

I'm really torn between the two candidates. I really liked Kucinich, and am sad that he got little press. I don't mind the 3 major folks who are running now. I was bummed when Edwards left, and now that Barack and Hilary are left standing, I hear the debates as to why one should be the candidate over another. For example: Barack has too little experience and is in need of an elocutionist, but Hilary comes to the election with Bill-baggage and a vote for the war (I know she's said she'd do things differently now, but there are some who still hold this against her).

On NPR, a few analysts were talking about likely candidates and our likely next president. In a nutshell, they concluded that too many people hate Hilary, so if she were the Dem candidate, there would be a lot of folks crossing over to vote for McCain (he was their assumed Republican candidate), and they're not convinced a ton of folks would vote for Obama over McCain in the event they were our choices, simply because of the vast difference in experience. (I'm not saying I agree with the NPR assessment, just putting it out there.)

I need to re-assess each candidate's stand on issues, as well as their likelihood in taking action to work on them, and then I hope I can choose with more confidence.

The thing about Hillary changing her mind about the war, which she explained so well last night, was that had she known that GW was going to take the power she was voting to give to him and run amuck with it like he did she would NEVER voted this way. I realize that Barack is grabbing onto this and running with it, but somehow I wasn't impressed with his "I've always thought this" proclamations.

As for Bill-baggage...look at GW. True, his daddy was only in office for 4 years (as opposed to Bill's 8) but he still wasted no time in making a royal mess of things; his armpit of a son still got elected TWICE (well, to be fair, *appointed* the first time, *then* elected). If THAT can happen, anything can!! :-D

I am still undecided but leaning toward Obama. Whenever I hear him speak, his charisma just grabs me. This has no basis in logic, of course, but then, neither does forecasting the success of a future president based on his/her campaign skills. GW ran his campaign well, and look what a mess he's made! "The worst president ever," indeed.

Wow...I laughed my heinie off every time I saw GW on TV, for both campaigns but I *especially* loved the Bush/Gore debates in 2000. Gore was so brilliant and GW looked like such a flaming idiot by comparison. I was so floored when GW was appointed just because Gore lost the electoral vote! I guess I don't see having good speaking skills and being able to clearly articulate what your vision/intention/history/ideology is as campaigning - it's simply being who you are. Which, you could argue, is part of the campaign, so I'll just shut up now. **grin** Hell, I'll vote for Mickey bloody Mouse if it'll get Georgie out of the White House!!

I don't think Hillary can win the Presidency. I think too many mean-spirited Republicans hate her by association with Bill. And I've never understood that. We had the best economy we ever had with Bill in the White House and we had a budget surplus for the first time in Lord knows how long - and they hated him for it? I don't get that, but that's the inflexible conservative mindset for you.

Personally I'm still hoping for the Obama-Clinton ticket. That's the one way I think it can be won.
